Alicia Nonhlanhla Jali
Born and raised in Durban, I am a proud South African Native, who advocates for an equal and just society. I am a driven individual, who continues to pursue goals beyond reach , taking every day as a learning opportunity and a chance to contribute meaningfully to society. I
I relocated from Durban to Gauteng to cut my teeth into the world of broadcasting, and I have never looked back. The first-born daughter to the most amazing parents who taught me that everything is within reach, with the right focus and determination. I have grown from Kids Television Yo-Tv to learning and understanding the intricacies of the world of broadcast , having had a successful career in both post-production and on-air. Serving the people of this country and beyond with life changing information, I am forever an ambassador of goodwill. I continue to strive for excellence in both my current work duties and my studies. “Perfection is a lifelong Process”
Gareth Ackerman
An executive at Pick n Pay for 15 years until 1999, Gareth headed up various divisions and served as Joint Group Managing Director and the Managing Director of Pick n Pay Group Enterprises. He was appointed to the Board in 1990 as an executive director, until becoming a non-executive director in 1999. From 2002 to 2010 Gareth was Chair of Pick n Pay Holdings Limited, which at that time was the ultimate holding company of the Group. In 2010 he was appointed non-executive Chair of Pick n Pay Stores Limited.
Among his other involvements, Gareth is co-chair of the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa and is previous co-chair of the international Consumer Goods Forum. He is also a trustee of the Masisizane Fund and was a member of the international board of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO). He chairs the Ackerman Family interests.
Joseph Dube
Joseph Dube is a community environmental justice activist. He is part of a social movement seeking to address the inequitable distribution of environmental hazards among the poor and minorities. For the past 15 year he has been advocating for environmental justice hold that all people deserve to live in a clean and safe environment, free from waste and pollution that can adversely affect their well-being. During 1995 to1998 he educated communities about the South African Constitution with focus on the Bill of Rights including environmental rights (chapter 2 of South African Constitution). From 2015 to date he continue to works with communities to deal with illegal dumping and reclaiming those space. As well ensuring that all citizens receive from the government the same degree of protection from environmental hazards and that minority and underprivileged communities do not face inequitable environmental burdens. Currently he is mentoring with 25 young people with hope getting them to run green economy business. He is working with 50 Schools in the inner city of Johannesburg to recycle, using Life Orientation lesson to educate learners about the importance of recycling.
In 2018 he was recognised by Pikitup (City of Johannesburg) and DFFE for the efforts to raising awareness in the communities to stop illegal dumping as well as promoting Separation at Source (reduce, reuse and recycle). This year Mr Dube was recognized by Petco for his efforts to mitigate environmental degradation in the category of Education and Awareness initiative.
Lara Barlow
Lara Barlow is a sustainability and risk management executive with nearly 30 years’ experience driving sustainable and responsible business practices, food safety and quality assurance, supply chain integrity, and strategic risk management across the retail, FMCG, food service and contract catering sectors.
In her current role as Group Sustainability Executive, Lara is responsible for integrating sustainability into the core business strategy while balancing commercial performance, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and stakeholder expectations. Her expertise spans corporate governance, strategic risk management, supplier development, certification and compliance frameworks, and the development of inclusive value chains that create meaningful social and economic impact.
Recognized for her analytical and strategic thinking, collaborative and inclusive leadership, and ability to translate complex sustainability and risk challenges into practical business solutions, Lara is passionate about building resilient organizations, fostering responsible growth, and creating shared value for businesses, communities, and the environment.
Matlou Setati
Matlou Setati is the Executive for the Food Safety & Sustainability Initiative (FSSI), a division of the CGCSA. The FSSI is responsible for advocacy and liaison of sustainable initiatives, forums, projects and/or programmes within the precincts of food science, safety, quality, nutrition, health & wellness, sustainability, regulatory and related matters for the consumer goods and retail industries.
Matlou has over 20 years of experience in the South African food and agricultural industry, which includes various food production companies, and ten (years of service in public office at the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, where she served as Chief Agricultural Food and Quarantine Technician (Food Quality Inspector) and Chief Food Safety & Quality Assurance Officer (Food Regulations).
